This past week the press release went out confirming the rematch for the WBC Featherweight Championship between Jhonny Gonzalez (55-8, 47 KO’s) and Abner Mares(26-1-1,14 KO’s) will take place next year on February 13th at The Staple Center in Los Angeles. Boxing fans and Mares can thank Frank Espinoza for having the keen foresight to make sure the contract for the first battle had a rematch clause written into it. As we know, Mares was KO’d in the very first round of their battle this year.

Gonzalez-Mares II set for Feb. 15

Former three-division titleholder Abner Mares will get a chance to reclaim his featherweight world title when he faces Jhonny Gonzalez in a rematch on Feb. 15 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Golden Boy Promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer told on Tuesday.

Frank Espinoza Sr. has just confirmed to Fightnews the signing of undefeated Top Rank promotions prospect Jesse Magdaleno (17-0, 13 KO’s) to a management contract. Magdaleno, a former amateur star, is considered a blue chip prospect with a bright future.

Two-time Olympian Oscar Valdez returns Saturday

Undefeated two-time Mexican Olympian, Oscar Valdez (7-0, 7 KOs), has been creating quite a buzz with his fan friendly style and spectacular performances. The native of Nogales, Sonora fights December 21 in Tijuana at the Caliente Racetrack. He will face Cristian Barajas (4-4-1, 2 KOs) of Tijuana in a scheduled six-round featherweight clash. This will be only his second pro fight in Mexico.

Donaire Feels Agbeko Has Good Shot To Beat Rigondeaux

Guillermo Rigondeaux (12-0, 8KOs) will enter the ring a sizeable favorite when he faces Joseph Agbeko (29-4, 22KOs) in the main event of an HBO televised tripleheader on December 7th in Atlantic City, New Jersey. In his last fight, Rigondeaux survived a late knock down in route to a unanimous decision over Nonito Donaire.
